THE RED BALLOON VIDEO

THE RED BALLOON

Here I have created 2 videos which show the kind of thing I want to achieve with my digital posters.

REVERSED BLACK AND THE REFINED BALLON

BLACK AND BALLOON

I though working with a white background didn't have as much impact as working on a black background, which is why I have tried the reverse - and I love it. I have stripped everything down, and made a few posters which just incorporate the QR code (which still doesn't work yet) and having the brand insight. The QR code and the brand insight give enough information away -  I think.

I have also started thinking about what the app might look like, keeping in theme with the black and might and geometrical shapes. Also thinking about how the app would work.

I have also designed another poster which purely has a white circle, black background and red balloon. However much I love this, I think its too simple because no one will know what it is about. From here I am going to make a video just to see how the movement can work.

THE IMPACT OF THE BALLOON

A METAPHOR OF A LUCID DREAM

To make my communications campaign be more intriguing I wanted to have metaphor to leave it open for interpretation for the audience. I have changed the logo to 'Lucid dreams the app' which I think works really well. The typeface (Dense and Langdon) work well together and give a sense of sophistication and playfulness. I have taken the 'A' from the logo and made it into a monogram for the brand, which has a deep underlying meaning of a person standing and taking a reality or fantasy route.

I have worked with a bird, a kite and other metaphors of 'flying' however when I looked at the purpose and actions of a balloon, it stood out to me that a balloon is very similar to a lucid dream. You have total control over a lucid dream, until you let go and let your imagination take you. The same with a balloon, you have total control over it until you let it go. So I thought this was a perfect metaphor and should be used throughout.

When I was playing with the significance of the balloon, I started playing with words. 'It'll blow your mind' first came to me but then 'It'll blow you away' seemed to tie in great with the balloon part. I feel now it is really coming together. I have also integrated a QR code, which does not work yet, but it will do, which takes you straight to download the app.

FLYING

WHAT IS MOST COMMON IN LUCID DREAMING?

One thing which the majority of people want to do is fly. Just fly like a bird. So I have tried working with an actual flying human on an advertising campaign, although it may be quite literal I think it would make people stop and stare.

Below are some stills of some interactive PDF's I created with different compositions for communicating the app.

My thoughts so far are that the flying person does seem a bit far fetched and maybe even like they are falling. I also think the name 'Lucid dreams' should become one 'Lucid Dreams the app' because that is what it is. I like the black and white - but I think I might try the reverse. Also, the brand insight needs to be worked on because its a little wishy washy.

WHAT ADVERTS ARE OUT THERE FOR APPS?

WHAT APP ADVERTISEMENT IS OUT THERE?

After searching the web for advertisements for apps - I came to conclusion that there isn't actually much out there. I suppose because we are glued to our smartphones and social media - this tells us what's cool. From this conclusion I have decided what marketing communication I want to use:

Digital billboards and posters, because these are not used at the moment for app advertisement, which means there is a whole field of opportunity.

Desktop web banners and smartphone web banners are also a good way of communicating because they have high publicity and usually you can't miss them. It's just important to be different from other adverts on the market at the moment.

PLAY AROUND WITH SHAPES IN MOVIES

PLAYING AROUND WITH SHAPES

I wanted to take the opportunity here to play around with simple shapes and see what effects they can have. I started off by using a kaleidoscope effect taken from my poster designs, but I felt this was too fussy. I have then gone on to try out using the triangle taken from the logo. But sadly I also don't think there is much in these.

WHAT TO INCLUDE ON THE APP

Lucid dreaming is the ability to wake up in your dreams.

Lucidity stems from the realisation that you are dreaming which makes you become self aware.

This then gives you the full mental faculty to consider the dream in context.

You have the power to control your own movements in the dreams (just like waking life).

With a little experience you can accomplish all kinds of feats, like flying through space, creating new worlds, summoning characters, and having sex with anyone.

Dream control is just the beginning.

There are many more things to do in a lucid dream that will blow your mind, like allowing the dream itself to deliver subconscious messages to you.

Lucid dreaming techniques train you mind to:
- increase your dream intensity and dream recall
- Learning how to recognise when you're in the dream state
- Becoming more self-aware in your daily life through meditation
- Advancing your visualisation skills to enter dreams consciously
- Habitually programming your dream content with reality checks

Having frequent lucid dreams becomes a way of life. If you incorporate these techniques in your daily habits you will be more successful, after all your dreams reflect your thoughts, experiences and emotions from waking reality. That is why just thinking about having a lucid dream can produce lucid dreams the same night.

Beginners guide to lucid dreaming:
- Spend an hour learning about lucid dreaming (a section on the app)
- Do a reality check (app will choose random times of the day)
- Imagine what you will do in you first lucid dream (flying)
- Incubate a lucid dream as you fall asleep at night (thinking about the poster of the flying person
- Repeat the last step every time you wake up (set an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night)

For the apps, I think these will be 3 different stages, which can then be bought as add ons once you feel you are ready to have even more vivid lucid dreams.

- The digital/electronic posters will have 'a flying person' on them - this will be planting 'imaging what you will do in your first lucid dream' into the persons head.

- At random times in the day the app will pop up and ask you to do a reality check of some kind

Night time meditation:
After waking up in the middle of the night or in the morning, lie perfectly still and relax and allow your mind to drift. Holding on to a tiny bit of consciousness while allowing the body to fall asleep. Not only is this deeply relaxing it created out of body sensations, memory impressions, dream scenes. This is a great method for increasing your self awareness, visualisation skills and walking your mind directly into a lucid dream.

Dream Journals:
Keep a dream journal. Spend 10 minutes writing down your dreams each morning and you find that you dream recall and intensity will increate and you will have many more moments of spontaneous lucidity in the dream world.

Incubation:

To incubate a lucid dream some people only have to do is think 'I will have a lucid dream tonight' or repeat thoughts such as 'the next scene will be a dream'. You may also daydream about what you might do by visualising a powerful wish in detail, your subconscious mind may play back this same scenario in your dream tonight.

Brand name: Lucid Dreams

Brand purpose: An app which teaches you how to lucid dream (the ultimate thrill)

Campaign: To get people to download the app and give them a head start for the ultimate thrill of lucid dreaming

What marketing strategies will I use: Electronic Posters, Normal Posters, Ads on the web (as these are public spaces and the aim is to get the public involved, so having specific areas wouldn't work). Also these are visual things which people can just glance at at the corner of their eye, which will catch their attention.

The App:
The app will start off being for a beginner of lucid dreaming, the user can then buy add ons to make the experience more advanced.

What will be on the app:
- A place to write dream journals (1)

- A section to read up on lucid dreams (2)

- An alarm to wake you up at certain times in the morning

- Send pop ups throughout the day for you to do a reality check

- Contain animations which you can visualise what you want to dream about

Dream Journal
- A place to write what you dream (another side to you)

About Lucid Dreams - Reading can encourage a lucid dream

Alarm - Set for certain times during the night, where the message 'Am I dreaming' will appear with the animation of the person flying.

Pop ups - The app will send you random pop ups where you can do the reality check (for example try and push your fingers through your hand).

'I've experienced my first lucid dream' - go a step further...

A place to upload your dream experiences with other lucid dreamers - share techniques etc.
