THOUGHTS

THOUGHTS FROM THE PREVIOUS ARTICLE

  • "Be the change you want to see in the world" - Mahatma
  • Issues in the world have a common root cause - money
  • We are completely unaware of the suffering and destruction caused by just shopping
  • If we grew our own food we wouldn't waste a third of it that we do today
  • If we made out own table and chairs we wouldn't throw then out
  • If we had to clean our own drinking water, we probably wouldn't shit in it
  • Friendship is security - not money
  • 90% of our time on earth - we haven't had money
  • We are the only species to use money
I want to find one little point to expand on..

I don't think its just 'living without money' that I want to expand on - I think the idea of not 'shopping' is where I want to expand.

Reasons we shop - bringing a point from previous research:
  • On hand smartphone
  • Being bored and wanting to browse the internet
  • Where ever you are there are shops which are designed to entice you in store
Without these incentives it would be a lot easier to resist buying stuff.

The smartphone, the internet, advertising, attraction of shop stores is not going to die down, only increase - I believe some kind of messaging/source to encourage you to resist shopping for what you don't need.

There needs to be an ending which gives the user an 'ultimate thrill'.

Shopping gives us a thrill in life. Buying something new or receiving something through the post is so satisfying. What's the opposite of buying something? The handmade.

If people were to give up 'buying' what they love (something they thought they couldn't live without).

An replace it with making something.

They would get an unexpected thrill - from not expecting to be able to make what they have.

My thought so far is to have numerous posters/leaflets/other marketing materials to show simple ways of how to make simple things that you don't need to buy anymore.

What to do instead of buying something...
